Black Hat 2024 In Review – The Power of Unity
Black Hat 2024 has come and gone. The Nucleus team attending the show has (mostly) caught up on their sleep, which can mean one thing – a look back at the conference and our impressions of the event.
This annual cybersecurity keystone feels like it’s back to its pre-COVID glory, with heavy traffic on the show floor, long days spent in sessions, meetings on the expo floor, and of course the parties … like the GuidePoint party at Skyfall in the Delano, which we were fortunate to sponsor and attend.
Building Partnerships and a Unified Vulnerability Management Approach
“Unified, unified, unified. Everywhere and everything all at once!”
This statement was shared by one of our team members walking the expo floor. Cybersecurity professionals crave unity in their solutions, and it showed in the solution offerings and our conversations throughout the event.
Our Sr. Director of Strategic Initiatives & Strategic Alliances, Adam Dudley, met with both existing and prospective partners, seemingly back-to-back the entire show. Adam is tasked with building the relationships that make our platform such a powerhouse, realizing the vision for a truly unified and comprehensive VM program.
An event like Black Hat is a great opportunity to build these relationships. Adam and the rest of the team took advantage, filling the schedule with productive conversations and opportunities that we’re excited to see grow in the coming months.
Speaking Session: Measuring Risk with One Yard Stick
Nucleus COO Scott Kuffer was joined by Dr. Jasyn Voshell, Director of Products and Solutions Security at Zebra Technologies, sharing how partnering with Nucleus helped Zebra uplevel its vulnerability management program, delivering meaningful risk-based insights and significant value across the company.
Zebra’s challenge should sound familiar. It is a distributed organization using multiple security tools, employing over 1000 individuals spread across 35+ teams. Because of this diversity, the company was at risk from a “vast” volume of vulnerabilities that were difficult to prioritize.
With Nucleus, Zebra built a risk scoring approach that helped it tailor risk assessment based on an asset’s criticality, unify risk reporting across the distributed organization, and drive security improvements using this risk scoring approach.
If you attended Black Hat but missed the presentation, you can watch it on-demand using your event credentials.
No Surprises Here: Artificial Intelligence
Of course, walking the show floor and session corridors, you couldn’t miss the biggest buzzword, including an entire new section of the expo, dedicated to AI. It’s coming, Skynet is coming, maybe next year.
Goodbye to the Heat and Black Hat 2024
One thing we forgot to mention was the heat. Las Vegas in August is hot, but thankfully the AC was working just fine. Unsurprisingly, our branded cooling towel was the most popular swag at our booth, keeping attendees from overheating in the 110-degree weather!
Black Hat is one of the pillars of our annual event calendar, and 2024 didn’t disappoint. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, took time to meet with us, and made it worth the trip to the desert. Until next year!
